I was surprised how small the Eastern Pipistrel Bat was.-A.H.
I was surprised that Hidden River Cave was so small and rarely big.-A.O.
I thought there was going to be more of the river.-N.B.
The most fun part of the trip so far was Hidden River Cave. It wasnt touristy. It was wet and muddy.-L.D.
After going into Mammoth Cave, I was surprised at how wild Hidden River Cave was.-D.D.

Mammoth Cave and Hidden river cave are alike because you have to walk a lot. They are different because, Mammoth Cave is more civilized. J.B.

I almost rearranged the cave. I tried to find a path through some loose rocks and started to move a rock that was about a quarter of my size. Our guide stopped me from starting a landslide. She said she would now call it J.s rock after me. J.K.

This morning for breakfast, we went to Burger King. We got cinni-minis. If you dont already know, those are mini cinnamon rolls. The end. S.T. and K.H.

The experience at Hidden River cave was amazing. The most fun thing was, getting dirty and crawling through a foot wide space. It was hard to crawl because it was wet and muddy. R. S.

The dramatic experience of exploring a wild cave like Hidden River Cave made for a perfect outingor so I thought. But the day only got better when I got to eat lunch with M.G., J.B. and J.K. D. F.

My favorite things today were when Jackie got stuck in the mud and lost her boot, Stephanie said, after getting though a part of the crawl, I didnt fall!, then fell, and when we became the Dixon Chicks. YMH

When I was climbing up a hill during the crawl, slid back down, hit the ceiling, and landed on Jamie! BJS

In Hidden River Cave, Stephanie A. didnt like the word mucky, so I made up the word, jubalatized. JKV

In Hidden River Cave, which is nothing like Mammoth Cave, there was no electricity, no tiles on the floor, and the worst thing of all LOW ceilings. Then we went to Main Street Café and had a double deluxe bacon cheeseburger. It was the best Ive ever had! PJH

I cant wait to see Harry Potter II movie on the way home, because we get to drool over Malfoy! He aint hot. He aint cute. He is fine. He isnt fine, he is foine. SAC

The cave was funny because I was behind Mrs. Dixon and she kept getting stuck and took forever to get through the crawl space. She was falling all over the place and got a bruise the size of Texas! RB

My favorite part of Hidden River Cave was when Stephanie and I said, Hey, we didnt fall. And then we fell in the mud. Then there was a hill made of loose dirt and we started crawling on our hands and knees, but couldnt get up it and kept sliding down it! SAA

After lunch we went to a gift shop and I almost bought a rock turtle or three or four. But it was too expensive. NDH

The things people do on the surface (i.e. polluting water, filling sink holes with junk, building factories, etc) have a tremendous impact on the preservation of caves. Ms. S

We went DOWN unknowing and clean and came UP smart and dirty. VB

The Karst system is made up of sink holes, caves and underground water. E.J.

Be respectful and cautious of cave formations, they take hundreds of years to form. M.B.

Be prepared before caving 2 sources of light, have water, gloves, tell someone where you are going, and dont go alone. J.B.R.

Follow all the rules of caving and you will be o.k. E.F.

What we learned:

-Floyd Collins was a good caver, but he did not follow the rules of caving, like always take two or three other people with you, or always tell others where you are going. This disregard for rules probably cost him his life.

-Hidden River was used to generate electricity for the city of Horse Cave.

-Even experienced cave guides can get injured.

-Limestone is quarried by blasting. It then is crushed and used to make roads, and for agricultural lime.

-Our bus weighs 30 tons!

-Choral reading can be fun!

-It takes teamwork to explore a wild cave.
